One Room Challenge Fall 2020 | Week One Design plans
Hello Party People !
This old girl is going to get a workout because I am embarking on the journey of my first ever One Room Challenge as a guest participant! This is something I have wanted to do for YEARS but just didn’t feel the timing was ever right until recently. Don’t ask why I am choosing to do this during a pandemic because let’s be honest I have NO idea. But here’s the thing. It’s high time I start pushing for the goals and dreams I aspire to and this is a stepping stone in the right direction so I’m going for it! Drum roll please…… no? Oh ok. I am redoing my Front entrance/ Office!!!
I am going to show you a few photos over the years from the archives and show you all the stages this room has taken over the years. I think when we bought the house it may have been used as an office but we looked at it empty so we will never know haha. First it was my in-home hair salon. In a past life I was a hairstylist for 17 years.
Then I needed more space for clients so I could work more efficiently once my first born arrived and I went back to work about 6 weeks later. SO my darling carpenter husband tore the wall down between my hair salon and the laundry room, ( pictured above with the closet) we moved laundry to the basement , and I had a two station salon. I loved this and used it as such for about 5 years then went back to one chair. Then I turned it into a mini photo studio when I started photographing more regularly.
Then I turned it into the office and boot room that it is today but it got side railed by homeschooling this year…..Here is a few stages of this office and boot room. Also the front bench is part of the old entrance and a gift with purchase from the house we bought 11 years ago. It was all golden oak from floor to ceiling.
In this office I edit all of my photography, I sell you your vintage treasures, I pack them up and write your notes. I want this space to be more functional for things of that nature so here I am finally making this work. I have decided to keep my hair sink but I have a plan as to how I am going to hide it and make it somewhat of a usable space where it really wasn’t before.
This is my moodboard. It has change what feels like one zillion times over the course of the last few months but I feel that I have landed on something special and its definitely another step closer to my creamy, classy, vintage dream.
I have gotten some amazing sponsors for this One Room Challenge so far and am hoping to narrow down a couple more in the coming weeks. Fingers crossed so send me your good juju!!!
In this moodboard, I am going for a softer pallet and chose for the first time NOT WHITE PAINT. I REPEAT. NOT WHITE PAINT. Don’t worry I chose from the off-white collection. 😂😂😂 I have chosen a beautiful beige tone called “ Ballet White” by Benjamin Moore. This paint will be applied over the beautiful appliqué molding that we are installing around the room similar to the image in my moodboard. As well, we will be painting the ceiling in-between the existing beams with Ballet White so I think it will keep things really cozy. I will also be painting a desk that my husband built back in carpentry school which has similar wood appliqué to tie it all in.
The china cabinet I have in my mood board is one that I inherited from my Grandma and I will be moving it out of my dining room and into my office as my “library behind doors” with drawers and doors underneath for storing my vintage shop stuff! I am so excited.
Finally, who am I not to do a couple DIY’s so stay tuned for those too as I attempt to do a little reupholster of my vintage office chair. 😬
I wanted to give a HUGE shoutout to my sponsors who have so graciously helped me along the way.
MONARCH CARPET ONE they have single handedly been the most amazing local company to work with. I have been so lucky to find them and am so excited to share more about my choices for the front entrance and office! ( They are sort of adjoined so more on that later)
WINDSOR PLYWOOD Sherwood Park - they have an amazing Instagram presence and they are awesome local guys that I know I had to work with!
PAMPAS GAL- this is a new to me local Edmonton company and they have so graciously provided me with the prettiest pampas plumes for the perfect finishing touch to the space!
RUGGABLE- Basically the best rug I have ever owned came from this company and I am beyond thrilled to share this because this is the second time I have worked with them and these rugs DO NOT DISAPPOINT. You can literally wash them in the washing machine people! The washing machine!
PRETTY PEGS- This company is basically levelling up all of your basic Ikea furniture with amazing hardware and furniture legs and I am so pumped because this is part of my “ over the sink area” I am planning.
I am beyond ecstatic to share what we have been up. We have already been working our butts off on this space! Make sure that you check out all of the other participants in the One Room Challenge HERE.
That’s all for now!
